Alarm Station

How we monitor

Who does what, and when.

Alarm Station puts alarms in front of the people already on site, and keeps the record of what they did about it. Here is how that fits with your central station and the systems you already have.

Alarm Station is software for a staffed community of units, each with its own alarm system. It puts those alarms on a touchscreen so on-site staff can see them and press I’m on it. Staff are the first line of monitoring. Whether a central station sits behind them is your decision, subject to your insurer and local codes.

Three things look after a community like yours, and each one has its own job.

What Alarm Station does

  • Receives alarms from the systems you already have. We integrate most closely with Alarm.com. Everything else arrives over SIA DC-09, the standard the industry already uses.
  • Shows them on the touchscreens at that site, with the site’s own instructions underneath.
  • Records when an alarm arrived, when it was displayed, and when staff pressed I’m on it and Resolved.

Our responsibility ends when on-site staff have been notified and have pressed I’m on it. Until somebody presses it, the alarm stays open on the screen. Whether a person is there to answer it comes down to your staffing and your contracts.

If we cannot be reached

Alarms reach the screen, and any forwarding to a central station, through our cloud. If we cannot be reached, neither happens, and the screen says so instead of staying quiet about it. Signals are not thrown away: alarm systems generally retry a transmission that did not get through, and anything we have taken in but not yet forwarded goes out when that path is back.

What a central station does

  • Calls police, fire, and medical services, and confirms alarms by telephone. Those calls are a licensed station’s work, and Alarm Station places none of them.
  • Stands as the licensed central station on the account, wherever your insurer or local codes require one. Alarm Station is not that station and does not satisfy that requirement.

What your care systems do

  • Call bells, room stations, and staff duress stay on the nurse call system, which is listed equipment your license may require. Alarm Station does not replace it.
  • Medical alerts that reach us through the alarm system, such as pendant presses, fall detection, and missed check-ins, do appear on the touchscreen alongside everything else.
  • Clinical judgment stays with your people. Alarm Station displays alarms and assesses nobody.

Who this is for

Communities with many resident units and staff on site: senior living, group homes, HOAs, dorms, business centers, self-storage, schools. Where insurance or local rules still require a central station, Alarm Station sits alongside professional monitoring rather than in place of it.

Fire and life safety

Local fire codes, authorities having jurisdiction, and insurers decide what monitoring a community must have, and Alarm Station changes none of that. If a jurisdiction requires a supervising station, you still need one, and listed fire-alarm monitoring stays exactly as it is.
